Well hello there! My name is Jo and I’m the author of “Bring me Sunshine”, so named because when you have pigs, chickens and the beginnings of a vegetable garden, sunshine makes a welcome change to the endless rain and mud-caked wellies.

Jo on her 30th birthday
Last August, my partner B and I moved from the wilds of west Wales to the (something beginning with ’s’) of south Wales, specifically Cardiff, where we rent a small but pet-friendly flat. Out three cats live in the flat permanently (they do venture outside, but they’re not big fans of the city) but during the day, our two dogs and I drive to the field belonging to some friends of mine where I keep my pigs and chickens. It makes for a hectic life but it’s worth it!

Jo and B
I won’t ramble on any longer. Read the blog, it’s far more informative!

PS – Those of you who recognise me (or even know me) from my previous blogging existence will have no doubt spotted the lack of my last name anywhere on this blog. That’s deliberate and it would be great if you could keep it that way. I’m really not up for being googled as a real life, living person, and just want to keep some stuff for my non-pixelated life. Mucho thankiness

’s’ could stand for ’slums’ :-p – I know where you live!!
That sounds about right
Hi Jo! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Your comment was caught in the spam filter, but I got it! Aren’t chickens fun! Miss Cranky hen has never spent any time alone. Because of her big size, we will be turning her into a meal this winter. She’s an old hen and her egg production is very low. Her attitude doesn’t help her, she’s just not friendly. No one minded when I asked if we could add her to the freezer, so in about a month, she will be there. I see you have pigs too. Ours are on the way soon. Keep in touch!!!
Hi Jo, thanks so much for joining me on Twitter and leading me here. I look forward to really looking through your blog. I think I’m already envious of your life with all your animal friends!
Thanks, Diane. I’ve been following your photoblog for several years now. Never left a comment to my shame, just marvelled at each and every image and wondered how on earth you managed to capture the scene so perfectly.
Hi Jo,
I hope it is OK to make contact via a comment, as you have no contact page.
I’m working on behalf of the RSPCA to help encourage supermarkets to do more for animal welfare and I think that your readers could be interested in helping.
For the first time ever, the RSPCA Good Business Awards is open to the public through the People’s Choice Supermarket award which means that people can vote for the supermarket they think is doing the most for animal welfare.
Further information on the award and the achievements of each of the shortlisted supermarkets is available at http://bit.ly/rspcapeopleschoice.
I hope you can help – please get in touch if you’d like to know more.
Many thanks,
Stefan, on behalf of RSPCA
Hi Stefan, thanks for your comment. I’ll certainly do my bit to promote the awards for you. Is there a wooden spoon prize for the worst supermarket as well?!
Hi Jo,
there isn’t I am afraid. We are definitely trying to concentrate on promoting better animal welfare practices with the reward of the People’s Choice Supermarket Award.
We have also launched a campaign (Quash the Squash) specifically about the living conditions of broiler chickens in the UK which may be of particular interest to you. EU legislation my be adopted in the UK which would actually reduce the amount of space that each bird would have.
There is more info at http://bit.ly/quash. Do let me know if you would like to know any more.
Thank you for all your help,
Stefan
