Thinking about NaNoWriMo

A few weeks ago, Jennie asked me if I was going to have a bash at NaNoWriMo this year. I had a go in 2006 but never finished. But will I have the time this year and will I get it done?

Oh, you’re probably wondering what NaNoWriMo is. It stands for National Novel Writing Month and the concept is quite simple. If you sign up, then your goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in November. You can’t start writing until 00:00 on the 1st and you have to finish by 23.59 on the 30th. It’s hard, it’s ridiculous, you don’t have time for editing, you just have to get it out as fast as you can. If you write a little bit each day, you need to write a minimum of 1667 words each day. Every day.

So, will I take part? I want to, but there’s loads of stuff I want to do that I don’t. (Like Doodle a Day, to name but one… so far!)

But then, when I was continuing the seemingly never-ending job of clearing brambles yesterday, instead of having songs from either Evita or Les Mis roaming round my head, I instead started thinking about an idea for NaNo. A vague plot. A vague structure. Ideas about a few characters…

Hmm, the question is, should I go with it, or store it for another time?

  1. I think you should have a go. I’m toying with the idea myself, but can’t think of any good plot ideas – maybe I’ll think about that while I’m cleaning the kitchen! Planning to start that decorating soon – hint hint!

  2. I will if you will?!

And yes, hints well and truly received at this end! But can you at least wait until the weather turns?
